The above charts are what I use to determine the size of clothing pieces I make. This is important for you to know, as you must be aware, there is NOT an industry standard size chart. Use the charts to help you determine what size will fit when purchasing an item or placing an order for one.
CLARIFYING THE RANGE OF SIZES FOR XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL
For Children's (above toddler) Sizes: XS (Extra Small) = Size 2-3, S (Small) = Size 4-6, M (Medium) = Size 8-10, L (Large) = Size 10-12, XL (Extra Large) = Size 14-16
For Misses' Sizes: XS (Extra Small) = Size 4-6, S (Small) = Size 8-10, M (Medium) = Size 12-14, L (Large) = Size 16-18, XL (Extra Large) = 20-22, XXL (Double Extra Large) = Size 24-26
For Men's Sizes: XS (Extra Small) = Size 32-34, S (Small) = Size 36-38, M (Medium) = Size 40-42, L (Large) = Size 44-46, XL (Extra Large) = Size 48-50, XXL (Double Extra Large) = Size 52-54
SPECIAL ORDER MEASUREMENTS
Not all adults, or children, for that matter, fit into the general categories listed in the size chart. When placing a special order that requires a size, it is helpful for me to know as many measurements as possible to make sure the piece will fit. If the item being ordered is going to be worn shortly after receiving it, up-to-date measurements are a must, but even if the item is going to be worn in an upcoming season, or even a year down the road, current measurements help make the guesswork out of planning ahead easier. Use the charts to help you know what measurements to take. It is also helpful to know the measurements of the following as well, especially for items with long sleeves, skirts, dresses or pants: 1) wrist circumference, 2) shoulder to wrist, 3) waist to back of knee, 4) neck to back of knee, 5) waist to ankle, 6) crotch to ankle (inseam).
HEAD SIZING FOR HATS
If ordering a hat for a child or adult, take a tape measure and make a note of the circumference of his/her head. I have detailed, below, the approximate numbers for the different age groups to help you when deciding on head gear.
BABY (6 - 12 months) = 18"
TODDLER (12 months to 3 years) = 19"
CHILD (3 - 10 years) = 20"
PRE-TEEN AND TEEN = 21"
ADULTS = Small - 22 3/4" - Size 7 1/4 - 57.8 centimeters
Medium - 23 1/8" - Size 7 3/8 - 58.7 centimeters
Large - 23 1/2" - Size 7 1/2 - 59.7 centimeters
Although I have tried to make the size chart and measurement information as clear as possible, I know from personal experience that there may be questions that were not answered here.
